FRIDAY NIGHT SOY CHAI SKETCHING

Tonight Echo and I rode up to the Starbucks on RT 3 in Manoa which is our usual sketch spot as of late. We both felt the need to sketch...it was an itch that had to be scratched! So out came the Ice Soy Chi latte and out came the sketchbooks...
A few people noticed we were drawing them and so we had to sally on...our secret activity discoverd...mwahahaha! A few folks put hands in front of their faces and one gal had her fiends sort of get in front...FOOL! I have X-RAY VISION! You cannot hide your form from my eyes or my drawing hand! Resistence is futile! Kneel before ZOMDISH!

Echo put her's up on her blog

  1. Those sketches are great!! Especially the 4th lady, we both targeted her but she turned out completly different in out sketches. Yours is more realistic than mine, also slimmer? Love them!

  2. Hey Mike,
Nice stuff as usual. Who'da thunk people would be such a pain in the ass and not let you draw them? It's hard enough to find a live model for a class in this area who is reliable. Do these people think they're Amish or something and will lose their souls if you draw them?? Maybe it's a self concsious thing? I ran into that when I did caricatures in a mall back in '96 for a summer. Some were afraid of how they would look. It must be also be a personal space issue with folks. But how can you even maintain that with what the Bush adminstration pushes on us everyday! Big Brother is watching and he's drawing YOU! Hahaha!

  3. Honestly tho - I'd be annoyed that some dood was in the corner drawing me, because I'd want to be asked.

There are some religions that believe photos and stuff capture your soul, so Neely's kinda right.

    Loving the art!

  4. yeah, stealing souls and all. sheesh. If you are out in public, you are fair game, that's how I see it. Sure most people feel funny being looked at, but most get over it. This is America, not a tribal society. It's mostly women, heavy women or angry teenage gals who hate being looked at.

  6. I'm kinda with Jamar on this one. I'd be a little pissed if I weren't asked first. It would be like an invasion into my personal space. I would actually get angry in fact, but then I have a really BAD attitude problem! Might even throw a scone atcha! HAHAHA!!!!

  7. I never ask, but then I have never had anyone get really upset either. Some people will turn, but most never notice.
I'll take a free scone. Happy Anniversary by the way...

  10. someting about the relaxed quality on the last fat lady drawing I like best. Maybe it's that is more tone than line oriented.
