Walnut Stop
Here is the next painting in the commuter series, its of the trolley stop at the end of my block from this last winter. I love all of the warm cool light mixes you get at night after a big snow storm. I think night scenes are a lot more challenging to paint but if you can nail the light--have a real magical quality to them.

In Station
Here is the next painting in the commuter series, a scene from the 69th Street Terminal. I kept this painting pretty loose until the end and really enjoyed playing around with the color harmony on this one. Come the first of the week I'll be ready to start on a few fresh paintings in the studio...

On The Easel
This is what's on my easel this week in the studio. I have been picking at this a bit every day and I think by the end of the week it will probably be done. I've worked over this a lot and started out with big bold shapes and kept it pretty abstract for a long time just working over all with a big brush and big shapes. I'm working from a photo I took, but once again I am changing things up a lot. I even painted on it for one session not even referring to the pic at all to resolve some issues I had--the 'what does the painting need?' issues. On the other painting I've done recently I felt much more sure of what I wanted in them, not so with this one, which I think is good.

Signal
This is one of the other paintings I have underway, which I put aside to let it set up, and I did the painting in the post below really quick afterwards. I wanted to try doing a warm underpainting so even though this will have many somber Philly coors in it I wanted to have that warm punch through in places. i did my drawing in charcoal and then spray fixed it really good and then went to town. I used one of those disposable foam wedge brushes to mass it all in.
Once its finished I'll post the final painting.

Night El
Here is another painting I did today, in fact this is the second painting I did today, the first got to a stage where I had to leave it so it could dry a bit before I went back to it, and I was also a bit frustrated with it. But my painting hunger was on, so I grabbed another canvas and went at it...I snapped this with my iphone and when it dries I'll get a better pic of it.

Night Trolley
This is the latest painting in my commuter series and the first painting in the series finished in my studio at PAFA. The color is still a little off in this photo, I need to get a good setup for shooting my work better. I have a few more painting now in the works and i will post some progress pics when I get further along.

Refresh--Restart!
Well I feel things are getting back into the swing of it. I restarted on the commuter series,I worked back into a painting I started back during the winter for my commuter series I'm working on. I did a lot more today ad I'll post the finished version soon.
Started pinning up the work I did this summer on my studio wall and its great to see my own process and a body paintings. One of the main things I'm working on now is the use of photos. For the commuter series i really couldn't do it any other way for some shots, but I am applying the same esthetic as I would when painting from observation or plein air. I am trying to work from many photos and draw from them as I would from life, without being a slave to them.

Still Life
I finally finished up a huge Tron job for Disney this week so I am getting to return to the studio to paint! It seemed like that job took forever--and it did take almost half a year, and the film looks good from all the stills I saw.
To kind of warm back up I decided to start with a few still lifes so I could get the painting juices flowing again. This is the third still life i've done this summer and I plan on doing another this week and tonight I also started again on my commuter series. there are spots here I like and others I'm "eh", but you know the thing is to paint, and keep painting.

Still Life
I was finally able to squeak a few hours into the studio again today, it's been a month and i have been so busy with freelance I haven't been able to get into the studio and paint much, but I did manage to eek out this little still life. I started another tonight and next week I plan on being involved with both the commuter series and the Super Sad series again full bore.
