SKETCH PARTY!

Last night Echo and I had another cartoonist party at me casa.Bonaia,
Teressa, Thomas and Kelly were in attendence. It was a lot of fun as
usual, and it included a delicious Vietnamese Dinner at Little Saigon
down the street. Unfortunately Jamar's car conked out on him so he
couldn't come. Here are my sketches...Bonaia will post hers on her blog
and I thnk Echo will scan and post her's tomorrow.

I love sketching directly in ink...for every 2-3 missfire doodles or
drawing maybe you get one that works, after a while te brain train is
warmed up and the sketche start to form specific things. Funny how a
conversation will make it's way or influence in a drawing...I got this
character in my head, this idea of ths sort of Lupen type guy, maybe a
PI, just the head shape and you can see the eveolution in the
sketches...funny how this guy just cae to life for me as I was
drawing...demanded to be put on paper...

  2. Man, I hate Blogger. This is the third time I'm trying to leave a comment here--error this and error that.
Sure, you mention Jamar's car, what about my poor baby...blah...blah...looks like you guys had fun after I left...blah...blah...blah...can't participate in one of those sketch parties because I'm a fine artist--we can't keep up with you guys---that's a highly guarded secret and if you tell anyone, we'll take all of your pencils away--FOREVER!...blah...blah...

  5. Oh yeah, I forgot to RE-mention that I like that PI guy too. He's kind of shifty-looking; sort of shark-like.
Ya know, the first couple of times I tried to post here, my comments were meant to be humorous. Now that I've had the chance to read them after a few days, they seem, shall we say, a tad cranky? Didn't feel that way when I wrote them though....
And as for the the sketch parties--can't wait to attend the next one, but you'll have to tie me to a chair, nail a pencil to my hand, and threaten me with spiders to get me to draw anything around you people! But gimme a week and I'll paint-cha a purdy pitcher...

  6. Kelly, anyone can doodle, it's the idea that you can't do what we do that stops you from doing it. It's just hooking into your own river of ideas that's all.

And who wouldn't be cranky after the car accident or shitty rain for days and days....
