FIGURE DRAWING WEEK 6

Last night Echo and I drove down to DCAD for the weekly open figure lab through the boiling heat. It said 100 degrees on the navigation readout in my jeep. Sensor indicate that it's really &*@#! hot out captain! Walking the half block from our parking spot to the school drenched me in my own juices!

Our usual gang was in attendence and our usual model Shanna was our muse for the night. I have to admit I felt a bit zapped by the heat and once again I felt my focus wained a bit, so I think the xrawings kinda reflect that a bit. I did try and "soften" these up a bit, try and be less "hard" with the charcoal, I don't know if I was very successful, I wanted these to be looser, I felt a bit uptight maybe the last week. These are all most 2, 10 and 20 minute poses. Echo has some real nice ones up on her blog as well. For the last few poses I got a spotlight on the model which helped, and everyone seemed happy with that decision, otherwise I felt there was little or no contrast and I had to force the values too much.

Next week I'll be back at it in full force once again.

A bigger version here.

Counting for the top I like 5 and 7 best. More relaxed line on these. The more you leave out the better I like it.

I think we are both growing in figure drawing:) Also glad that you were able to suggest adding the spot light, big help!!

Like 3 and 5 best. I don't know, I suppose it's having a little environment around the figures that does it for me. I realize that getting all of that in in just a few minutes is just not possible sometimes though! And of course we could delve into the painterly drawing versus the draftsman type....... :-)

Hi Mike M :) You don't know me and I don't know you at all, but as a fellow artist, I just wanted to tell you that your work moves me! Your sketches, drawings & paintings are absolutely marvellous...you are so very, very talented!!
Keep up the excellent work...if you were to stop creating such lovely works of art…it would truly be a crime.
I hope you are inspired often and enjoy your creativity!
