FIGURE DRAWING WEEK 7

Here are the drawings from last night's open figure lab at DCAD. I felt a bit looser last night, maybe it was that it wasn't so &%#@! hot this week. I tried also using a old red conte pencil I found in my old art bin. Echo also tried it for her last drawing. I liked it as it allowed me to really try and get some nice tones down quick.
I really want to almost just do this every day, set up models and even do draped figures. Echo and I will try modeling for each other and even try hitting the mall for some good quick sketching.

For this one I tried working in bold tones then cutting back in with the kneaded eraser

A bigger drawing HERE.
My favorite drawing of the evening...and then we were done.

Echo has some up on her blog as well.

I love how sanguine pencils make a sketch look!

Though these are all great, I love the last one. I guess I'm just into the atmosphere there (again). One question: why don't you ever tone your paper first? Is it because there just isn't enough time for starting it that way, or is it just not the kind of thing you're into? Just curious, and also trying to look at things from your perspective as it's so different from mine. So, I guess that means I'm really trying to figure out why I do things the way I do...blah....blah....blah...

Kelly, I don't tone the paper mostly because of the time involved. The poses are short and i guess I should pretone the stuff before. I'm still figuring out what, where with this stuff and the rushed nature of the poses, longest 20 minutes means no time to muss ansd start over. I was happier with the lighting this week, but still...

One of the students, Walt, tones his paper sometimes.

I think figuring out what and why you do it is essential. Otgerwise is blind experimentation every time.

teaching does that for me. I have ot analyze my thoughts and approach, dissect it to teach it.
